How to Follow Trends Without Going Broke

Fashion week is always inspiring. You see all these incredible looks, new trends, and suddenly you want to rethink your entire wardrobe. At least, that’s how I feel every time.

But the truth is: Following trends can get expensive! And not every trend is worth investing in.

After watching this fashion month and everything I shared in my last post, I kept thinking: How do we actually take these trends into real life… without overspending?

Here’s how I approach it.

1. Invest in the Trends That Actually Last

Not every trend disappears after one season, and those are the ones worth paying attention to. A good example right now is statement coats.

During fashion week, coats were everywhere. Long structured coats, oversized silhouettes, strong shoulders. Outerwear really became the focus of many looks. And this is exactly the kind of trend I would consider investing in.

A great coat is something you’ll wear over and over again. It’s not just a trend piece; it becomes part of your everyday wardrobe.

If I’m going to spend more on something, I’d much rather invest in:

  • a high-quality wool coat
  • a structured long coat
  • or a timeless trench

These are pieces that will still look good next year, and the year after that.

2. Go Affordable for Short-Term Trends

Some trends are clearly more seasonal. Like sheer fabrics or very specific statement pieces. They look beautiful, but they might not stay around for long.

For those, I prefer to go for more affordable options. You can still try the trend and have fun, without feeling like you wasted money if it fades next season.

3. Focus on Pieces That Elevate Everything

One thing I noticed during fashion week is how much outerwear and accessories can change a look.

A great coat.
A structured bag.
A strong blazer.

These pieces do a lot of the work for you. Even a very simple outfit, jeans and a basic top, can look completely different with the right coat or bag. That’s why I think it’s smarter to invest in a beautiful coat, a quality bag or timeless shoes.

4. Use Color as the Easiest Trend Update

If you want to follow trends in the easiest way possible, start with color. This season, we’re seeing a lot of burgundy and deep tones, and I love it because it instantly makes an outfit feel more elevated.

The best part is: You don’t need to change your whole wardrobe.

You can just add:

  • a burgundy bag
  • a pair of shoes
  • or even a sweater

It’s such a simple way to update your look without overspending.

5. You Don’t Need Everything

This might be the most important one. You don’t need to follow every trend. Fashion week shows us a lot, but that doesn’t mean all of it is meant for us. I think the best approach is to pick:

  • a few trends you genuinely like
  • a few pieces that fit your lifestyle
  • and ignore the rest

Because at the end of the day, style is personal.
